Carbonica featured on unmatchedstyle

July 24, 2009 03:00 by Carbonica

Many thanks to reader Julia Anderson for blogging about Carbonica and featuring it on unmatchedstyle.

She writes: "I’m loving the earthy textures, fun colors, illustrations and hand-drawn looking font."

Thank you Julia -- your comments are appreciated!

Some people have noticed that the layered textures in the background can be slow to load on older computers. I guess our designers counted on everyone having super-fast computers. Sorry about that. We will develop in less graphically-charged version keeping the good CSS techniquest that we have developed.

Many thanks

Brunella

Carbonica featured on GottAQuirk

July 22, 2009 03:43 by Carbonica

Thank you to Zubeir Soeker for his mention of Carbonica on gottAquirk, a blog where readers discuss sites of note -- his comments and praise are noted and appreciated. He does mention the issues of navigation that we were already looking into redesigning, especially the vast swathes of terra morta on the left margin that we can populate with useful things. All wonderful projects will come in due course!

We have been cited a lot but sorry to all those we've failed to thank. I must get into the habit of thanking people (always say thanks when people say nice things about you!) individually on our blog. We love your feedback, so keep it coming!

Carbonica in partnership with Cooltribe

May 18, 2009 07:03 by Carbonica

After a two-week holiday I have so much to talk about but the hot topic this week is the launch of the Carbonica-Cooltribe partnership.

Cooltribe is a new social network with a green focus. It's made of many "tribes". A tribe has a tread, or several. People upload news and movies (their own or embedded from YouTube). Topics range from the pros and cons of nuclear energy (dry but interesting), your thoughts on the decline of the honeybee (more fun), beautiful clips of divers in Marbella, etc. You can find me there - on occasions - reading or posting - I joined about a month ago.

The good people of Cooltribe are cleverly basking in the sun of Marbella (excellent location to base a global website - Carbonica take note!) and their webdesigners post lovely clips of marine life. So we are left in no doubt of everyone's love of nature.

Cooltribe and Carbonica are cooperating to fight together against illegal logging and deforestation, and Cooltribe now offer to plant a free tree in the rainforests of Brazil or Central America for every member who joins. It's free to join and I think that the only requirement is to complete the registration profile (which includes things like general interests, favourite books etc).

I welcome your feedback. Pls feel free to write to me with ideas/complaints/suggestions for discussion. I would love to hear from you.

Thanks!

Happy Easter!

April 9, 2009 07:15 by Carbonica

Best wishes to all, for a happy and restful Easter break. We very much look forward to recharging our batteries during the long weekend.

I can anticipate that next week we shall launch our "The future is paperless" campaign, a very important and timely issue, that I discussed briefly in an earlier entry. We want to raise awareness about the wasteful mountains of paper generated by the printed press, post, bills and utilities, and many other day-to-day items that add to unnecessary use of paper. All of these contribute to global warming and the depletion of our valuable forests. Our vision of the future is entirely paper-free, with no post and no paper clutter, where we get and store all our information electronically.

The Ecologist, the leading green monthly magazine in the UK, is leading by example and has announced that it will discontinue its hardcopy publication from June this year.

C-O-N-G-R-A-T-U-L-A-T-I-O-N-S !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am in awe and admiration for this decision, and it should be an example to follow by all newspapers and magazines.

We will be redesigning our eco bookstore imminently and will not be selling hardcopy books in future -- which we hope will be archaeological material in the very near future! -- and we'll only sell e-books and e-readers. We very much look forward to the release of Kindle 2 e-reader in the UK. More on this to follow.

I want to share with you my excitement about having discovered the new online green social community, cooltribe.com, where I am greatly enjoying taking part in forum discussions and meeting new friends. Do pop by and have a good chinwag on all matters green!

A bientot

Brunella

New green meeting place

March 10, 2009 08:24 by Carbonica

Social networking fans can turn away from niche green groups in Facebook and myspace: a new site for people with an interest in the environment has launched.

Cooltribe.com is the new Facebook for green people.

The format is similar to other networking sites, where visitors create profiles, make friends, message one another, share videos and media content. Members can create "tribes" - these range from being discussion groups on a given topic to a group of friends, companies, charities, etc.

I have tried it and I rather like it! (I was never into the social networking thing, but I think I might get into it). I would encourage people to take part and share their views/concerns. At the end of the day, it's vox populi the only thing that counts, and that's how politicians will finally pay heed to our concerns about global warming.
